Berlin Music

Music in Berlin and its Historical Setting played a bit part in Berlin's Musical Scene Today

When you speak of visiting Berlin, you often want to see some of the old architecture that still stands today, but many people head to the city for the many musical venues. Berlin is a huge city with a population over three million people and is the capital of Germany. If you are planning to visit Berlin, one of the ways to make your vacation complete is by renting a vacation apartment instead of a hotel room. The two simply cannot be prepared because an apartment offers you a private entrance, separate bedrooms, fully functional kitchen, fully furnished, and it offers a home-like feeling.

The music of Berlin has been a central theme to the city for many years and is the home to some of the best music venues in all of Northern Germany. Many composers have worked in Berlin finding inspiration when the city was divided. Some of these include Richard Strauss, Johann Joachim Quartz, Carl Friedrich Zelter, and many others. It was in 1740 when Frederick II was in power that music blossomed once again in Berlin. In fact, during the 18th century while he reigned, Berlin was referred to as being in the Golden Age of music.

It was also during this time that opera became a very important part of the Berlin music center, and the tradition has continued to this day because there are three main opera houses in Berlin: Komische Oper, Deutsche Oper, and the Berlin State Opera.  In addition, you will find seven symphony orchestras, such as the famous Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and the Konzerthausorchester Berlin. The fact is, Berlin has all the high-class musical centers and performances that are sure to please anyone's taste.

Of course, Berlin also has some very modern music that needs to be looked at as well. For instance, they have the Berlin School of Electronic Music that was influence by artists such as Tangerine Dream and Klaus Schulze. The school and the music influenced many electronic musicians that engaged in ambient music, all with no words, but the music itself told the story, so therefore, lyrics are not needed.

Several pop and rock bands come through Berlin and play live concerts at the largest venue in the city, the Arena Berlin. In addition, many Indie rock clubs in Berlin are on a much smaller scale, but entertaining nonetheless. For instance, if you like it loud, then head to the Black Box Music Club where you will find great live bands, large crowds, and a good time for adults. The Junction Bar also has live music from the local bands in Berlin. If heavy metal music is your forte, you will find live music at Columbiahalle, but if jazz is more your style head on over to the Quasimodo, which just happens to be one of Berlin's oldest jazz clubs and is a jazz-only club.

As you can see, Berlin is not just a city that offers a lot of old architecture to see, which of course, is a unique reason to go to the city. However, music is a huge part of the culture in Berlin and the city has had influences on many types of music such as opera, classical, and electronic. Many people when visiting Berlin do not realize how much music is a part of the entire culture of the citizens, but by the time you leave, you certainly do.

Finally, many of the Berlin apartments that you can rent in Berlin are fabulous because some are old and have been refurbished. Others have their own unique furnishings that are very modern while others are simply homey. The point of renting an apartment during your stay over a hotel is to make your stay more pleasant. Let's face it, no one likes to stay at a hotel where it is small or you have several people in your group and everyone has to book a different room. The solution to this is renting a vacation apartment because it truly makes your stay in Berlin that much more enjoyable.
